Today's walk: Guisborough Forest Walkway (2½ miles)

Today's walk starts at the Guisborough Forest & Walkway car park near Pinchinthorpe

The Visitor Centre is closed today

We have a choice of three marked walks - today we only have time for the 'red walk' - approx 2½ miles
The walk starts along the track bed of the old railway line between Pinchinthorpe and Guisborough

A view south of Roseberry Topping, about 2 miles away, from near the start of the walk

Soon after the start we turn right and climb these steps to the western edge of Bousdale Wood . . .

. . . where wild rhododendrons are quickly gaining a stranglehold on the banksides
After about another ½ mile of easy walking we take a slight detour right to the edge of the wood for a good view of Newton Moor (top left) and Roseberry Topping
The sun breaks through as we get another look at the northern face of Roseberry Topping
After descending the forest path we cross this well constructed footbridge and turn left still following the 'red walk' . . .

. . . before joining a good forestry track for our return journey
(It was just past this point that I saw three wild roe deer but I was too slow to get a decent photograph)

Half a mile later we enjoy splendid views east over to Highcliff Nab

Near the end of the walk are the nature ponds and viewing platforms - the local authorities are trying to encourage wildlife back to this natural habitat with great success
We now continue back along the old railway track to the starting point
